Well as most people are probably now aware Infinity Ward and Activision have released a minute long Modern Warfare 3 trailer. I’ve linked to it below for those that haven’t seen it yet. Obviously all the comparisons and fan boy wars have begun in earnest now over which will be better BF3 or MW3. Personally, looking at the MW3 trailer and comparing it with the previously release BF3 trailer it looks to me like there is a lot of “on rails” stuff in the MW3 trailer, with what looks like very little free gameplay. This obviously allows for much more scripted set pieces, as they’ve done. The BF3 trailer is very much a gameplay demo and to me looks like a more accurate representation of what the game will be like.

Now Gamer also has a comparison of similar scenes in both MW3 and BF3 with comments on each. From reading it, bF3 looks like the winner to me, even just on a graphics basis, leaving aside for a minute the fact that there is the freedom that comes with the usual vehicles in the BF series.

I think visually Infinity Ward’s choice to stick with the old IW4 engine, while DICE raced off with Frostbite 2 may bite them in the arse in the graphics stakes. While DICE are ploughing away with their shiny new engine, IW have shackled themselves with an engine that can trace it’s roots back to the Quake 4 and Doom 3 era, since the IW4 engine is based off the ID Tech 4 engine.
