6. Clan Overview

1) Our Mission is to create a fun gaming environment where everyone involved can play Counter Strike Source on our servers without abuse, racism or sexism and without cheats spoiling the fun.

Financial contributions of between £3.50 - £5 per month from our members pay for the servers and if there is anything left over it goes towards payment annual web hosting services and domain name renewal costs.
Contributing financially is only fair if everyone does it so it is seen as compulsory.

Competitive friendly matches with other clans are frequently undertaken and are a great way of taking the game to the next level without it becoming too competitive and hard work.

Originally made up of a few friends and family, the clan has reached out now beyond the shire (Nottinghamshire) and now have members in different areas of the UK and as far as Sweden.

We prefer everyone that can to respect our English speaking server and try to use English where possible although we will have a go at speaking foreign languages using translation sites etc when communicating with foreign clans regarding matches.

We are mainly in it for the fun of it and mainly play at the same time as chatting and having a laugh in Team Speak.

2) Recruitment is something that is carried out with much consideration and isn’t taken lightly; Members will come and go, therefore, it is always a good idea to add new members to the clan.

We recruit the more senior player for obvious reasons, this has been a great success and as a result, we have had good member retention and very few internal issues to deal with, probably due to the maturity of the clan.

We are lucky enough as a clan to have a busy public server, this is where the new recruits come from mainly. We don’t have to go out looking for members, the players tend to stumble across our server and having had a friendly fun time with us, they normally come back again and again thus becoming one of our regulars and maybe in time a clan member if his or her recruitment is successful.

The recruitment process is simple and has worked well since the start of {xvc}Clan on 6th March 2006, we tend to be very picky with our recruits especially given the fact that we all spend such a lot of time together and will frequently meet up in “Real Life” for activities off of the game.

The recruitment process can be found in the relevant section of the forums for viewing by clan members only.

3) a. Guidelines for clan members.
As a rule, new clan members are given time to settle in and to get comfortable with the existing members before they are given admin on the servers. The reasons for this are as follows; new members will have had a little time in Team Speak with us initially and would have been playing the servers for a little while but you can never completely tell if they are going to settle in and want to stay in the clan.
It has to be a good idea to hold off with the admin initially as it can be used maliciously if placed in the wrong hands or if the person with the new found powers has no intention of contributing productively to the clan.

All members should respect each other at all times and should refrain from engaging in arguments or disputes of any kind.
Nothing good can come of having bad feeling with other members as it will only cause an atmosphere and ultimately, when tempers are frayed or when people are not in the best of moods it can result in outbursts or arguments.

b. Internal personal issues with other members if not resolved in the early stages will completely contradict the mission statement and therefore change the makeup of what we are about.
It’s much better that we in some cases keep our opinions to ourselves and take the game and clan for what it is.. Just for fun.
There may be times where a member has such an issue with another member that he or she feels they cannot be civil to one another, in this case, we have a real problem.. This is something that has never happened and I would like to think that the person who decides he cannot be civil any longer with another member would bow out gracefully rather than going out all guns blazing. (No pun intended)
In short, if there are any issues of this nature, report it early to Tony.

c. Use of Admin should be uniform throughout to prevent any confusion or disagreements.
If there are more than one administrators on the server at the time and you want to change a map, do a vote or anything of that nature, members should at least consult the others as to what they are about to do.
It makes more sense that in general, multiple admins in Team Speak that are able to discuss decisions with one another would normally be the ones in the best position for administrating the server due to being able to discuss decisions and come to a compromise.

Sometimes, there may be admins in game, some on Team Speak and some not.. This tends to be where the confusion starts.
If a member wants a map vote/change or anything that will affect everyone and they aren’t in Team Speak, communication via ma_say , steam friends or xfire should take place to decide upon the options, it’s a simple matter of consideration for our fellow clan members.

4) Banning Procedure on our clan is pretty simple really, we try not to ban anyone but we do sometimes have to do it.
The best procedure is to do a “status” in console to get the users steam ID, then once you have banned the user, go straight to the forum section under Bans and Server Administration and make a new post there; copy and paste the users name and steam ID along with your reason.

Bans should ideally be witnessed by other admins and discussed prior to the ban.
To keep a track on the ban list and so
a) we know who’s who on the server ban list, and
b) no one is maliciously effecting the servers popularity by banning people without anyone knowing.

The above procedure needs to happen so we have a clear log of who’s banned, by who and what for.

5) Leaving the clan is something that most people will do eventually but it is much better to go out on a positive note rather than going down in flames.
Experiences other clans have noted has shown that when members are getting tired of being in the clan or if they disagree more and more on the way the clan is going they tend to care less about how they choose their words in the forums and tend to go against the grain more often on decisions or procedures but are usually the ones that have the least constructive input.
When someone is thinking of leaving a clan, they tend to be less concerned about who they ban and how they treat others on the server; Some people may burn their bridges totally with the members and start a flame war.
Others will just become less and less present on the server and forums until finally they stop contributing financially and then you don’t hear from them.

6) Clan Overview

In the past couple of years our clan has continued to maintain its numbers and continues to be a popular choice for players that want to have some laid back fun without any hassle from childish people trying to bring everyone down.
We tend to weed out the bad guys pretty quickly and never tolerate hackers and racism etc which makes for a consistently enjoyable evening.

From the start and to this day, we maintain that it is the people that make the clan what it is and we never recruit for skill; this has enabled us to have a fair mix of skill level and a wider age range amongst our members which adds more variety of play.
